Over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rain in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
“Isolated very heavy falls are also likely over Assam and Meghalaya on May 16, 18, and 19,” the prediction said. The IMD predicted dust storms and dust-raising winds for Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Strong winds in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning caused dust and air pollution. Visibility at the Palam Observatory in Delhi, near Indira Gandhi International Airport, was 1,100 meters at 9 a.m., down from 4,000 meters on Monday.
Satellite photographs from the meteorological department showed dust blanketing large parts of northwest India.
On Tuesday, the weatherman expects light rain or drizzle in isolated spots, offering a much-needed reprieve from the heat. Delhi’s high temperature was 41.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the season’s average, while the low was 25.2 degrees Celsius, usual for this time of year.
Kerala rain
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a minor delay in Kerala’s southwest monsoon, which will arrive on June 4.
Kerala receives the southwest monsoon on June 1 with a standard variance of 7 days.
Kerala’s southwest monsoon may be delayed this year. “The monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to be June 4 with a model error of 4 days,” the Met office stated.
