According to an official on Monday, the NIA has filed its second supplementary charge sheet in a case involving a January 2022 attack on former MLA Gurcharan Nayak in which two police personnel were slain in Jharkhand.
Saturday, a charge sheet was lodged in a special NIA court in Ranchi against two armed cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) terror group — 25-year-old Tivari Bankira alias Shaka and 20-year-old Sadan Korah alias Sajan, according to a spokesperson for the federal agency.
According to the official, the duo from the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand has been accused under various sections of the Indian Panel Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
While Bankira was detained on November 30, Korah has been in detention since February 13, according to a spokesperson for the National Investigations Agency (NIA).
Jharkhand NIA charges two more.
According to the NIA’s investigations, they aided the CPI (Maoist) in advancing its terror and violence-related activities and fighting against the Indian government.
“They participated in the plot to carry out the terrorist attack against Nayak and his bodyguards. They were also members of the special action team created by the outlawed terrorist organization to carry out the crime, according to the spokesperson.
According to the NIA, the two suspects attended the meeting where the plot to attack Nayak with lethal weapons at High School Jhilrua was devised.
The NIA stated in its indictment that the suspects had scouted the area a day before the incident and participated in training to execute the attack.
On January 4, 2022, the former legislator was assaulted on the school grounds in the West Sighbhum district.
The case was initially registered at the local police station, but the NIA took over the investigation on June 30, 2017.
On December 31, the NIA charged fourteen defendants in the case.
