Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), a renowned Indian Premier League team, announced on its official Twitter account @RCBTweets that the jersey numbers of two iconic players, AB de Villers, and Chris Gayle, will be retired permanently. The IPL Hall of Fame will induct the two jerseys on March 26. RCB will welcome the two stars at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Jersey No. 17 has always represented AB De Villers. After joining the squad in 2011, Villiers has played 11 seasons in the same shirt and scored 4491 runs in 156 matches. He scored 37 50s and 2 100s for Bangalore. De Villiers struck 152 for RCB and had five 100-plus partnerships with Virat Kohli and two 200-plus stands.

Villiers’ attack on Dale Steyn won the 2012 IPL’s most powerful knock title. He was a great finisher, as seen by his 2015 hundred in Mumbai and 2016 hundred against Gujarat Lions in Bangalore. Villiers retired from all cricket in November 2021, surprising everyone.

Spending time with world-class players from different nations is hard to describe. Glenn McGrath, Tillakaratne Dilshan, and others shared my Delhi Daredevils dressing room in my debut IPL season. “It had a huge influence on my game, and you can see how my game progressed to the next level from 2008 onwards,”De Villiers remarked in a recent interview.

Jersey No. 333 was Chris Gayle’s frightening field armor. Chris Gayle scored the first IPL century.

Since then, the West Indies player had terrorized bowlers. Gayle has all runs, hundreds, fours, and sixes records. He swung a Brett Lee delivery beyond the Lord Tennyson school outside Oval! Gayle also has a perfect IPL record. He joined RCB in 2011 after playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009.

He scored 708 runs in 16 RCB matches in 2013, including an undefeated 175. In 2018, he joined the Punjab Kings for four seasons.

Gayle is gregarious and a larger-than-life cricket character. His Chris Gayle Foundation funds Jamaican education and healthcare. Every player and young gamer idolizes him.
