A PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is required for conducting financial transactions, selling and buying items, applying for a visa, and, most importantly, filing an income tax return (ITR). It is a ten-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department of India to individuals. Each PAN number assigned and PAN card issued is valid for an individual’s whole life.
People who misplace their PAN are not obligated to seek a replacement. You may apply for a duplicate PAN online or offline, or obtain an e-PAN card through the IT department’s e-filing page. In the case that your PAN card is lost or stolen, you must immediately submit a complaint with your local police station and obtain a complaint copy of the First Information Report (FIR) to ensure that no one may use your PAN card illegally.
