According to accounts from Sunday, a serious tragedy was averted on Friday when an aircraft from Air India and an aircraft from Nepal Airlines came dangerously near to colliding with each other above Kathmandu.

According to reports, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has terminated the employment of two personnel working in the air traffic controller department for “carelessness.” This information was provided by the CAAN spokesperson Jagannath Niroula.
On Friday morning, two airplanes on their way to Kathmandu, one from Nepal Airlines arriving from Kuala Lumpur and the other from Air India coming from New Delhi, came dangerously close to colliding.
According to what Niroula was reported as saying, the aircraft belonging to Nepal Airlines was flying at a height of 15,000 feet while the aircraft belonging to Air India was descending from 19,000 feet at the same spot.
After the display on the radar that indicated the two aircraft were close together, the Nepal Airlines aircraft made a descent to a height of 7,000 feet, according to the representative for the company.
The CAAN has reportedly suspended the two officers who were in charge of the control room at the time of the occurrence and organized a committee consisting of three members to examine the problem. According to reports, insiders have stated that the committee will probe the matter.
