Barry Keoghan’s next major part might be in Ridley Scott’s next Gladiator sequel. If the arrangement is finalized, the star of The Banshees of Inisherin will appear in the film alongside fellow 2023 Oscar contender Paul Mescal.
Scott returns to direct and produce the sequel, which follows the 2000 smash Gladiator. In addition to Michael Pruss, Doug Wick, and Lucy Fisher are involved to produce the Paramount project. This script was written by David Scarpa.
Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and Conie Nielsen starred in the original film. Maximus, the Roman general-turned-gladiator who avenges the killings of his wife and children, was portrayed by Russell Crowe.
Set years after the original film’s events, the sequel will center on Lucius (Mescal), the son of Lucilla (Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Phoenix). Maximus saved Lucius and Lucilla when he vanquished Commodus in battle, but he too perished from his wounds, allowing Lucius to rejoin with his dead wife and son in the afterlife.
At the 95th Academy Awards, Keoghan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal in The Banshees of Inisherin, while Mescal was nominated for Best Actor for Aftersun.
