Two days after the Election Commission (EC) issued a notice to the grand old party, the BJP filed a criminal defamation complaint against Congress leaders DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah and Rahul Gandhi. Monday, the election commission demanded “proof” from Congress regarding its “corruption rate card” advertisements in local and national dailies targeting the BJP.
The May 18 hearing date has been set for the case concerning the May 5 advertisement campaign by the Congress in the majority of Kannada and English newspapers.
Previously, the BJP sent a legal notice to the three leaders requesting that they remove the advertisement and offer an unqualified apology. However, the advertisements were not removed, and the BJP has now filed a defamation lawsuit against these Congress leaders.
