According to the Daily Mail, a state member has proposed a ban on chemicals used in various sweets, including Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, Pez, and jelly beans, since they have been linked to cancer, organ damage, and Genetic damage.
In addition, Trident sugar-free gum and savory products such as Campbell’s soup and some bread brands are at risk of being removed off store shelves.
Assembly Member Jesse Gabriel, whose district is west of Los Angeles and who proposed the prohibition in a bill, issued the following statement: “Californians should not be concerned that the food they purchase at their local grocery store may include harmful additives or poisonous chemicals.”

Five compounds are explicitly targeted by the law proposed by Gabriel: propylparaben, red color 3, brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, and titanium dioxide.
The European Union has already prohibited the latter three.
In addition to prohibiting their sale, this bill would prohibit the production of food items containing these substances across California.
